God fulfills many roles. He is the creator of all things (Exo. 20:11). He is the sustainer of life (Acts 17:28). He is the sovereign ruler of the world (Psa. 47:2-3). He is savior (1 Tim. 2:3-4). He is judge (Acts 17:31). He is our Father (Matt. 6:9; 1 Cor. 1:3).
Everything that God does he does perfectly. Every role that God fills he fills flawlessly. On this Father’s Day, consider the characteristics of our perfect Father. As you do, Dads, open your heart and life to the challenge of making these traits your own.
God loves his children. “By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” (1 John 4:9-10).
God models good behavior for his children. “But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Pet. 1:15- 16). “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt. 5:48).
God provides good things for his children. “What man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him” (Matt. 7:9-11).
God instills hope in his children. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Pet. 1:3).
Dads, God does all these things for his children (and more). Do we?
